Precision Medicine

What is Precision Medicine?

Precision Medicine is an approach to disease prevention and treatment that takes into account individual variability in genes, environment, and lifestyle for each person. Unlike a “one-size-fits-all” approach to disease prevention and treatment, the precision medicine approach allows Simpson Clinic practitioners to more accurately determine which treatment and prevention strategies will work for individuals based on the results of their genetic testing.

Simpson Clinic offers Genetic Testing through Alpha Genomix.

The testing examines your individual DNA to determine if you have genetic markers which place you at increased risk for certain disease states. The testing also looks at enzyme pathways in the liver responsible for metabolizing medications and the genetics of certain receptors responsible for a patients response to narcotic medication or depression therapy.

The testing is performed in the lab at the clinic. A swab is taken from the inside of the patient’s cheek to obtain cells for DNA analysis. The report is sent off and the results are available within 5-7 days. Most insurance companies will cover this testing especially if treatment is needed for mental health or chronic pain conditions. The report will be reviewed with you by your provider at Simpson clinic. The report will be utilized to individualize your medical therapy. In addition your provider may make lifestyle change recommendations based on this testing.
